Although separated by an ocean, Mark and Christina were brought together by their coaches, Jimmy Young and Sandy Hess. Jimmy and Sandy had coached together in Denver a few years back and spoke with each other about a talented male student Jimmy had in England and a talented female student Sandy had in Colorado Springs, Colorado, who were both looking for partners. Mark and Christina then began e-mailing each other in November 2005. They developed a friendship by e-mail before their first meeting and tryout the end of December in Edinburgh, Scotland. After their first session skating together, Mark and Christina decided to become an ice dance team. They began their skating partnership on New Year’s Eve 2005.
